Troubleshooting Your RFID Reader - TSL 1128, 1153, 1166, 2128, 2166

 
Summary

This article describes common problems you may encounter using TSL 1128, 1153, 1166, 2128, 2166 RFID devices and helps you to resolve them. The example below uses the TSL 2128 but steps are similar for the other devices listed in this article

The possible issues are:

  • TSL 2128 Device is not getting ON / OFF
  • TSL 2128 Device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application
  • TSL 2128 Device is connected to another Android/ iOS device
  • RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application
A. Switching ON & OFF TSL 2128 Device

I. Switching ON the TSL 2128 Device

1. Press the trigger button once.

2. Then its LED light up GREEN along with beep; means power is on.

II. Switching OFF the TSL 2128 Device

The TSL 2128 reader powers off automatically when no longer connected to any device and idle.

B. TSL 2128 Device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application

Immediate after when TSL 2128 device is powered on, the “Bluetooth Status” LED light will automatically start flashing Blue – this indicates that TSL 2128 device is now in discoverable mode and ready to pair with a nearby Android device

1. Open the TagMatiks AT Lite application and login into it.

2. On the Home Page, click on the Settings Icon (at the bottom right side of screen); as shown below:

3. To make the connection with TSL 2128 reader; press the “Manage Reader” button - on the left-hand side of application (highlighted in red color).

NOTE: Make sure the Android device’s Bluetooth is on.

4. Select “TSL RFID Readers” (highlighted in red).

5. Then a new window will open, named: “Readers List.”

6. Bring TSL 2128 reader close to the Android device.

7. TagMatiks AT Lite application will show the discoverable reader’s name & MAC Address ; as shown below:

8. The reader’s name will be “TSL XXXXXX- 2128P”; where “XXXXXX” is the six-digit value of device serial number.

9. In the above image, the value “002789” is the device serial number.

10. The MAC address of the TSL device is also reflecting. Here the device’s MAC address is: 88:6B:0F:F5:BD:14

NOTE:
When no TSL 2128 reader is there nearby the Android device.
OR
If the Bluetooth of TSL 2128 reader is Off.
OR
TSL 2128 Reader is not in pairing mode.
OR
TSL 2128 Reader is already paired with another Android/iOS device.

Then TagMatiks AT Lite application will show “No Available Readers.” Refer below image.

11. Now press on the available Reader name.

12. Once you press on reader’s name, then application will start making connection with that TSL 2128 device.

13. On successful connection, an acknowledgment/pop window will come – stating that” TSL 030231-1153P has connected successfully”; refer below image [Figure 09].

14. Application will also fetch the Serial number and Model name of connected device and show it along with the reader’s name; as shown in above image [Figure 09].

C. TSL 2128 Device is connected to another Android/iOS device

If the TSL 2128 device is “ON” but couldn’t connect to the Android device. Then there is a possibility that the TSL 2128 device is already paired & connected to another Android /iOS device. To check the same, please follow following steps

I. TSL 2128 device LED status check:

1. Check the status of the “Bluetooth Status” light.

2. If it is solid “Blue”; means TSL 2128 device is already in paired with another Android/iOS device; as shown in below image

3. If it is “OFF” then no connection is established

II. On TagMatiks AT Lite Application: TSL 2128 Reader check

1. Press the “Manage Reader” button - on the left-hand side of TagMatiks AT Lite (highlighted in red color).

NOTE: Make sure the Android device’s Bluetooth is on.

2. Select “TSL RFID Readers” (highlighted in red).

3. Then a new window will open, named: “Readers List.”

4. If no reader comes/reflects in the reader list.

5. This means:

No TSL 2128 reader is there nearby the Android device. OR TSL 2128 Reader is already paired with another Android/iOS device.

Then TagMatiks AT Lite application will show “No Available Readers.” Refer below image.

D. RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application

In TagMatiks AT Lite, please first ensure the configuration settings are in sync with the RFID tags.

1. Please click on the Settings Tab and then click on the “Configuration” under “Admin Settings”

2. Please click on “Asset Configuration” .

3. A new window will open, where you can see tabs for Tagging Options, EPC Data and Other Memory Banks. As shown below:

4. To modify the behaviour of associating RFID tags to assets; please read the article named:"Configured Overview"

5. Once the tag format configuration is properly saved; go to the “Home” page.

6. Press the “Inventory” button - on the bottom left-hand side of the application.

7. Then a new window will open, named: “Inventory.”

8. For taking the inventory, click on a location. For example, the location selected is "San Francisco"

9. Press the “Start” icon bar button on the AT Lite application, then the TSL 2128 reader will start reading the RFID tags. Please refer below image

10. Once you Press the “Stop” icon bar button on the application; then the TSL 2128 reader will stop reading the tags.

11. As a result, the read tag will populate on the application window, as shown in below image.
