Upgrading the Firmware of Your CSL CS108/CS710S

 
Summary

The article explains how to upgrade the firmware of the CSL CS108/CS710S UHF RFID Handheld Sled Reader.

Pre-requisites

A Windows PC with the following minimum specs

  • Pentium Dual-Core E214 1.6GHz or Pentium Mobile Dual-Core T2060 or Pentium Celeron E1200 1.6GHz
  • 2GB RAM 1.2 GB free hard drive space
  • The USB port, 1.1 or higher, for the connection of USB Readers
  • Minimum display resolution: 1024 by 768 pixels
Installation of Demo App:

Download the latest version of CS108 WINDOWS C# DEMO APP

  • Download the latest version of CS108/CS710S WINDOWS C#DEMO APP
  • Connect the USB cable from the CS108/CS710S reader to your PC.
  • Run CS108/CS710S USB PC Demo App (CS108/CS710S PC Demo App.exe) You should see a device connectable.
  • Press the “Connect” button to connect the CS108/CS710.
  • The greyed-out buttons now appear black and active.
  • The three Firmware to upgrade are as follows: Silicon Lab, Bluetooth Firmware, RFID firmware
To Upgrade Silicon Lab Firmware :

1. To upgrade Silicon Lab Firmware, use the following link to download the Upgrade Image file

Download Silicon Firmware.

2. After download, Click on the “Upgrade Image” button in the Silicon Lab Firmware Upgrade box.

3. A window will pop up prompting you to select a file. Select the Silicon Lab image file with a .img extension and press the “Open” button. Refer image below

4. By the end, a small “Reply timeout” window will pop up. Do not be alarmed. Just press the “OK” button on that small pop up window, then press the “OK” button on the Update Progress window.

To Upgrade RFID Firmware

1. To upgrade RFID firmware, Click on the “Upgrade” button in the RFID Firmware Upgrade box. A separate window pops up.

2. Press the “Power On” button.

3. Then click on the “Upgrade Image” button, a file open window pops up. Select the RFID firmware with a .a79 extension and Click on the “Open” button option.

4. When it is completed, it asks you to wait for 6 seconds. Please wait.

5. Eventually, you will see the Upgrade Success message. Press the “X” button at the upper right corner of the window.

6. This will bring you back to the main window. You are still connected to the CS108/CS710S reader. Your RFID firmware upgrade is now completed.

To Upgrade Bluetooth Firmware

1. To upgrade Bluetooth firmware, Click on the “Upgrade image” button in the Bluetooth Firmware Upgrade box. A separate window pops up.as shown in Fig 0.8.

2. Select the Bin file for Bluetooth firmware upgrade and Click on the open button. As shown in Fig 0.9.

3. It will begin upgrading the Bluetooth firmware. Do not unplug the reader from the desktop, as shown in Fig 1.0.

4. After upgrading the firmware , it will take 15 seconds to restart to the Application as shown in Fig 1.1
