Troubleshooting Your RFID Reader – TSL 2128, 1153, 1166, 2128, 2166

 
Summary

This article describes common problems you may encounter using TSL 1128, 1153, 1166, 2128, 2166 RFID devices and helps you to resolve them. The example below uses the TSL 2128 but steps are similar for the other devices listed in this article

The possible issues are:

  • TSL 2128 Device is not getting ON / OFF
  • TSL 2128 Device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application
  • TSL 2128 Device is connected to another Windows device
  • RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application
A. Switching ON & OFF TSL 2128 Device

Switching ON the TSL 2128 Device:

1. Press the trigger button once.

2. Then its LED light up GREEN along with beep; means the power is on.

Switching OFF the TSL 2128 Device:

The TSL 2128P reader powers off automatically when no longer connected to any device and idle.

B. TSL 2128 Device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite Application

Immediately after the TSL 2128 device is powered on, the “Bluetooth Status” LED light will automatically start flashing Blue – this indicates that TSL 2128 device is now in discoverable mode and ready to pair with a nearby Windows device

1. Open the TagMatiks AT Lite application and login into it.

2. On the top right side of the application, you can check the reader’s connection status; as shown below. If it is not connected with any RFID reader; it will show as “Connect”. Refer the image below.

3. To make the connection with the TSL 2128 reader; press the“Reader” button - on the bottom left-hand side of the application: Refer to the image below.

4. To make the connection with TSL 2128 reader; select the device by clicking the dropdown of “Device” list; as shown below.

NOTE: Make sure the windows device’s Bluetooth must be on.

5. Then multiple reader options will come in the dropdown.

6. Select the “TSL”: Refer to the image below.

7. Now select the port value by clicking the dropdown of “Port” list; as shown below.

8. Then click on the “Save” button to save the settings in the application. Refer to the image below.

9. On successful connection, an acknowledgment/pop window will come – stating that “Settings saved successfully”.

10. After saving the settings, click on the “Connect” button from the top right side of the application.

11. Now the application will show the status as “Disconnect”.

12. As a result, the detail of the reader comes on the application and shows the serial number of the TSL device & its firmware version.

13. E.g. In the above image, the value “1.5.0” is the device’s Firmware Version.

C. TSL 2128 Device is connected to another Windows device

If the TSL 2128 device is “ON” but couldn’t connect to the Windows device. Then there is a possibility that the TSL 2128 device is already paired & connected to another Windows/Android/iOS device.

To check the same, please follow following steps

I. TSL 2128 device LED status check:

1. Check the status of the “Bluetooth Status” light.

2. If it is solid “Blue”; means TSL 2128 device is already in paired with another Windows/Android/iOS device; as shown in below image:

3. If it is “OFF” then no connection is established

II. On TagMatiks AT Lite Application: TSL 2128 Reader check:

1. Press the drop-down button of Device, to select the TSL device.

NOTE: Make sure the windows device’s Bluetooth must be on.

2. Then please select Port value, here it is selected as “COM3”.

NOTE: Here the TSL 2128 Reader is making a connection through “COM3” port with the Windows device.

3. Then click on the “Save” button to save the settings in the application. Refer below image:

4. On successful connection, an acknowledgment/pop window will come, stating that “Settings saved successfully”.

5. After saving the settings, please click on the “Connect” button from the top right side of the application.

6. If no reader is connected, then the application will give a message that “ Failed to connect to reader. Please try again”

7. This means:

No TSL 2128 reader is near the Windows device.OR TSL 2128 Reader is already paired with another Windows/Android/iOS device.

D. RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application

In the TagMatiks AT Lite Application, please first ensure the configuration settings are in sync with the RFID tags. For the same, please follow following steps:

1. Please click on the “Configuration” under “Admin”

2. Please click on “Asset Tag Format Configuration”.

3. A new window will open, where you can see tabs for Tagging Options, EPC Data and Other Memory Banks. As shown below:

4. To modify the behaviour of associating RFID tags to assets; please read the article named:"Configuration Overview"

5. Once the tag format configuration is properly saved; go to “Dashboard” page.

6. To read the RFID tags from TSL 2128 reader; press the “Inventory” button as indicated in image below on the left-hand side of the application, and select the location as shown on the right hand side of the application in the image below.

7. Create a new Inventory transaction, by pressing the “Trigger” button on the TSL 2128 Reader.

8. Once the “Scan” button is pressed; then the “RFID” Green LED will flash.

9. This means the TSL 2128 reader is in polling state and reading the tags. Refer below image:

10. Once you release Trigger button on TSL 2128 Device, As a result, the read Inventory status will populate on the application window, as shown in below image in Highlighted with red.
