Troubleshooting Your RFID Reader - Caen qID mini reader

 
Summary

This article describes common problems you may encounter using Caen – qID Mini RFID device and helps you to resolve them.

The possible issues are:

  • Caen qID mini device is not getting ON / OFF
  • Caen qID mini device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application
  • RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application
  • Caen qID mini device is connected to another Windows/Android/iOS/ device
A. Switching ON & OFF Caen qID mini device

1. Press the Main Power button continuously for 3 seconds only.

2. Then its LED lights up green; means power is on.

Switching OFF the Caen qID mini device:

1. When the qID mini reader is on, press the Main Power button continuously for 2 seconds only.

2. Then its green LED light becomes off, meaning the qID mini device is powered off.

qID mini device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application

Immediately when the device is powered on

Then the “Power LED” will turn: -
either, Green - if battery is more than 35%
Orange – if battery is more than 15 % & lesser than 35%
Red – if battery is lesser than 15%

And “Link LED” will be off; this acknowledges that the qID mini device is not connected to any device.

Add Bluetooth Device to the computer.

The Caen qID Mini reader needs to be connected to a computer for running the application and for the same “Add Bluetooth Device” pairing process to be performed.

1. From the “Start Menu”, select “Settings”. Then in the PC Settings window, select Devices.

2. Inside the Devices window, be sure the Bluetooth & other device submenu is selected. Then click on the “Add Bluetooth or other device” button, as shown in image below.

Make sure that Bluetooth is turned ON.

3. Another window will open to add a device.

4. Select Bluetooth from this window. Then all the Bluetooth devices in range will be displayed.

5. The qID mini- 16160102 reader will show up as the type and the last 8 digits is the reader serial number. Be sure that the reader is turned ON.

6. Please Click on connect.

7. Allow time for the connection and pairing process to complete. When finished, your reader has been paired to the computer and is ready to be used by TagMatiks Asset Tracking Lite. This process will not need to be repeated for this computer

8. Click on the “Done” button to add the device in Bluetooth Paired device

Determine the Outgoing COM Port for the reader.

TagMatiks Asset Tracking Lite needs to know which Outgoing COM Port is used to communicate with the paired reader.

1. In control panel right click on the paired device with Bluetooth, listed in Unspecified and click on hardware

2. You will see the COM port Number as Standard serial over Bluetooth link. Refer to the image below

3. Open TagMatiks Asset Tracking Lite Software and enter in the Settings menu.

4. In the Reader Model dropdown menu, select CAEN and in port, select the Outstanding port.

5. After the selection of the reader, click on “Save”.

6. A popup will appear, stating that “Settings saved successfully.” Click on the “OK” button to close the popup.

7. Please click on the “Connect” button to connect the reader as shown in image below.

NOTE:
When no qID mini reader is nearby the Windows device
OR
If the Bluetooth of qID mini reader is Off
OR
The qID mini reader is not in pairing mode.
OR
The qID mini reader is already paired with another iOS/Android/windows device.

then TagMatiks AT Lite application will show "Failed to connect to the reader, please try again" Refer below image.

8. Press on the “Connect” button again.

9. Once you click on “Connect”, then the application will start making a connection with that qID mini device.

10. On successful connection application will also fetch the Firmware version of the connected device and show it along with the reader’s name; as shown in below image.

RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite

In the TagMatiks AT Lite, first ensure the configuration settings are done with the RFID tags. For the same, please follow following steps:

1. Click on the “Configuration” under “Admin”

2. Click on “Asset Tag Format Configuration”.

3. A new window will open, where you can see tabs for Tagging Options, EPC Data and Other Memory Banks. As shown below:

4. To modify the behaviour of associating RFID tags to assets; please read the article named:"Configuration Overview"

5. Once the tag format configuration is properly saved; go to the “Dashboard” page.

6. To read the RFID tags from the qID Mini reader; press the “Inventory” button as indicated in image below on the left-hand side of application, and select the location as shown on the right hand side of application in image below.

7. Create a new Inventory transaction, press the “Trigger” button on the qID mini reader.

8. Once the “Scan” button is pressed; then the “RFID” Green LED will flash.

9. This means the qID mini reader is in polling state and reading the tags. Refer to the image below:

10. Once you release the Trigger button on qID Device, as a result, the read Inventory status will populate on the application window, as shown in below image and highlighted with red.

qID mini device is connected to another iOS/Android/Windows device

If the qID mini device is “ON” but couldn’t connect to the Windows device, then there is a possibility that the qID mini device is already paired & connected to another iOS/Android/Windows device. To check, follow steps below:

qID mini device LED status check:

1. Check the status of the “LED Link” light.

2. If it is solid “Blue”; the qID mini device is already in paired with another iOS/Android device; as shown in below image:

3. If it is “OFF” then no connection is established

4. If it is solid, “Orange” means a USB cable is connected to either a Power adapter or to a computer.

5. If it is solid “Green”, it means qID mini device is in configuration mode.
