Troubleshooting Your RFID Device - Zebra RFD40

 
Summary

This article describes common problems you may encounter using Zebra RFD40 RFID device and helps you to resolve them.

The possible issues are:

  • Zebra RFD40 device is not getting ON / OFF
  • Zebra RFD40 device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application
  • Zebra RFD40 device is connected to another Windows/Android/iOS/ device.
  • RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application.
A. Zebra RFD40 device is not getting ON / OFF

Switching ON the RFD40 Device:

 

1. Press the handle trigger for two seconds to turn the reader On.

2. Then its battery LED lights up GREEN meaning power is on.

Switching OFF the RFD40 Device:

 

1. If the reader is not used for a duration of thirty minutes, the reader enters in Off mode automatically.

B. Zebra RFD40 device is not connected with TagMatiks AT Lite application

Immediately after the RFD40 device is powered on, the "Bluetooth Pairing" LED light will automatically start flashing Blue – this indicates that the RFD40 device is now in discoverable mode and ready to pair with a nearby Windows device.

1. You’ll need to pair the reader to your Windows Device using the device’s Bluetooth pairing process before using it with TagMatiks AT Lite.

2. From the Start option open "Settings" and select Bluetooth & Devices" as shown in the image below.

3. Click on "Add Device".

4. Click on "Bluetooth."

5. Select "RFD40+_22055520100870" from the list of visible devices.

6. Click on "Done" after the successful connection with the reader.

7. Open TagMatiks AT Lite Application and log into it using the credentials.

8. Select the "Reader" from the given options to connect the reader with the application.

9. Select "Zebra" from the Device dropdown option and in the Unit option select RFD40+_22055520100870.Click on "Save" and then on "Connect" Button to make a successful connection between the application and the reader.

10. Reader details will appear with the Firmware version as shown in image below.

C. Zebra RFD40 device is connected to another Windows/Android/iOS/ device.

If the RFD40 device is "ON" but couldn’t connect to the Windows device then there is a possibility that the RFD40 device is already paired & connected to another Android/iOS/Windows device. To check the same, please follow the following steps.

RFD40 device LED status check:

1. Check the status of the "Bluetooth Pairing" LED light.

2. If it is solid blue; means RFD40 device is already in paired with another Windows device; as shown in below image:

Else "Bluetooth Pairing" LED light is flashing Blue – this shows that the RFD40 device is now in discoverable mode and ready to pair with a nearby Windows device.

NOTE:

When no RFD40 reader is nearby the Windows device
OR
If the Bluetooth of RFD40reader is Off
OR
The RFD40reader is not in pairing mode.
OR
The RFD40 reader is already paired with another iOS/Android/windows device.

then TagMatiks AT Lite application will show “Failed to connect to the reader, please try again” Refer the image below.

D. RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks AT Lite application.

In the TagMatiks AT Lite, first ensure the configuration settings are done with the RFID tags. For the same, please follow following steps:

1. Click on the "Configuration" under "Admin"

2. Click on "Asset Tag Format Configuration".

3. A new window will open, where you can see tabs for Tagging Options, EPC Data and Other Memory Banks. As shown below:

4. To modify the behaviour of associating RFID tags to assets; please read the article named: "Configuration Overview".

5. Once the tag format configuration is properly saved; go to the "Dashboard" page.

6. To read the RFID tags from the Zebra RFD40 reader; press the "Inventory" button as indicated in image below on the left-hand side of application, and select the location as shown on the righthand side of application in image below.

7. To create a new Inventory transaction, press the "Trigger" button of the Zebra RFD40.

8. This means the RFD40 reader is in polling state and reading the tags. Refer to the image below:

9. Once you release the Trigger button on RFD40 Device, as a result, the read Inventory status will populate on the application window, as shown in the image below.
